Our Contemporary sessions continue to be a constant source of wonder and delight.

September proved to be no exception and here’s a flavour of what we enjoyed.

The ‘Waddle of Worcester’ artistically painted penguins sculpture trail provided inspiration for Geoff Hicks and Bob Green.  Working entirely separately, they interpreted the subject in very different ways.

Remaining fairly local, Nigel Reader showed how ‘The Bard’ is freely and commercially represented in various ways in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Further from home, yet remaining in the UK, Clive Haynes illustrated the activities of dogs and their owners upon a sunny beach in North Wales.

Going overseas, Gerry McCulloch’s beautifully insightful studies were all about the close connectedness which binds family and community-life in a small village in Bihar, India.  Trieste on a very wet day provided inspiration for Kaz Diller with his closely observed vignettes of people with umbrellas in the rain.  Through a series of evocative monochrome studies, Stewart Bourne’s images from an extended holiday in France touched upon memories from his childhood, whilst others contained an aura of mystery.

Tessa Mills and Bob Oakley, through different subject matter and approach, both showed how an image, once abstracted, can become more than the sum of its parts.  Energy and synergy in a swirl!

Our two ‘outside sources’ this month provided two distinctly different interpretations of reality.

Sarah Lazure’s series “Sarah” features raw, visceral, realistic self-portraits that command the audience’s attention, free from the beauty-standards seen throughout the history of photography. The imperfect surface of the work demands the viewer’s acceptance just as it is. Sarah’s eyes become a recurring theme, reminding us that she is watching and does not want to return.

The essential wonder of the natural world, particularly landscapes, captured with sensitivity and without resorting to artifice, is the mission of Samuel Feron with his 'Terra Quantum' project.
