Our October session provided another wonderful selection of work, rich in its variety of imagery and imagination.

Following the Club’s visit to Tewkesbury for the ‘Tewkesbury Trundle’ event, it wasn’t surprising that several members presented their interpretations about the fine old Abbey and cameos of the town itself.  Indeed, Tessa Mills, Pat Catlin, Maddy Pennock, Tricia Sandford and Clive Haynes presented very individual viewpoints and ways of seeing.

Our colleagues took us to a variety of locations from Chris License showing architectural aspects of Italy to Darren Leeson’s personal view about tributes to soldiers under heavy attack during ‘The Battle of the Bulge’ in the Arden, Belgium.

Further contrasts were provided by Bob Oakley’s continuing exploration of dark and lonely ‘Liminal Spaces’, compared to the explosion of abstract radiant colour from Tej Kaushal’s ‘Chaos of Colour’.

People, characters and situations were represented in three very different styles.  The photo-journalistic approach was the choice of Dr. Charles Ashton with his encounter with the ‘Unite the Kingdom’ march in London.  David Hall adopted a street-photography approach to ‘Punk Rock Lives’ in Blackpool.  Kaz Diller included many diptychs to compare and contrast people in different locations.

Outside Source
With such a full session we only had time for one ‘outside source’ – an exploration of some rare images by Cecil Beaton from his wartime photography.
These are some rare images of his war work, although these copies are sometimes of poor image quality, they show his classical sense of design and graphic strengths.

We can find new and fresh approaches in photography, but these set a foundation and inspiration which is still relevant today.

Introducing ‘Double-Page-Spreads’
Our Viewpoint e-book this month includes layouts as ‘double-page spreads’ – that’s to say one image occupying the whole width of two pages. The layout offers an amount of flexibility for showing a whole ‘narrow-format’ image, combination images or a ‘panel’ of related pictures to sweep across the whole two-pages.  The aspect ratio for presenting a double-page-spread for the e-book is 2.332:1.  Tip: save the crop ratio as a Custom Preset to make this a simple ‘one-click’ function.

‘Tewkesbury Trundle’ e-book’
It’s coming together!  All Images for the ‘Tewkesbury Trundle’ have now been received, and the book is in the process of being compiled.  Tessa and I really appreciated seeing so many of our colleagues from the Contemporary Group at the event.

All members’ work from our October session can be seen in our latest ‘Viewpoint’ e-book.  Click on the image below or use this link: Viewpoint and choose the October 2025 edition.  The same link provides access to many previous issues of ‘Viewpoint’ - a fascinating treasure-trove waiting for you to explore!

The next CPG meeting will be on Thursday, 6th November 2025.

Best wishes,

Tessa and Clive.
