"Crackin!" as Wallace might say, this would be a brief yet accurate description of the session we enjoyed this month.

Through the randomness of serendipity, sometimes the images we enjoy at our contemporary meetings come together through related strands, whilst at other times they’re gloriously diverse.  This month, diversity reigned supreme!

Monochrome photography frequently distils subject matter to its essence. In this respect Richard Handley’s personal view of race-goers, Stewart Bourne’s and David Sowerbutts’ nostalgic musings, Clive Haynes’ stark silhouettes of local landmarks and Bob Oakley’s exploration of ‘dodgy places’, whilst diverse in subject matter, all fully engaged our interest.

Day’s out provided material for Dr. Charles Ashton in Liverpool and Frank Lauriello at Welland Steam Festival.

We were very pleased to enjoy debut contributions from Tej Kaushal where he explored his delight in ‘pure light’ and Joe Clifford who used colour to convey the personalities of his subjects through ‘instant photo’ portraits.

Bob Green’s images of heat-seared painted corrugated metal and graffiti were concentrated within one square metre of view, whilst Tessa Mills contrasted the confines of a new football pitch, totally enclosed by wire fencing, with the ‘casual kick-about-freedom’ of the unregulated 'footer-field' outside the mesh.

As usual, to widen our scope, we enjoyed two ‘outside sources’.  Here are the links:

The next CPG meeting will be on Thursday, 4th September 2025.

AND ..... don’t forget the WCC ‘Tewkesbury Trundle’ on 2nd September at 2.00pm.  Details in August Photonews and more to come.  An opportunity to
prowl the streets of Tewkesbury, admire the Abbey and saunter along the banks of the River Avon.

We look forward to your input and your company!

Best wishes,

Tessa and Clive
