Our December meeting continued to embrace our distinctive, individualistic, approach to the genre of ‘contemporary photography’.
Dr. Charles Ashton opened the session with images from his recent visit to Japan, particularly to Shinjuku a fascinating district within Tokyo. For the most part, other contributions were closer to home, for example, whilst Bob Oakley illustrated how meaningful images can be found anywhere by his perambulations around Warndon Villages, Nigel Reader went to Gloucester for his interpretation of two outstanding pieces of public sculpture.
Bob Green found the detail and minutia of rock strata at Minehead to be fascinating. Gill Haynes used a recent holiday in North Wales to aide her recovery from cancer as she rediscovered the joy in using her camera once again.
Never flinching in his resolve to inform and amuse, Stewart Bourne entertained us with his singular viewpoint concerning nature photography – or perhaps what it means to keep unusual pets!
Clive Haynes ventured to Worcester’s Victorian Fayre this year to interpret how paying passengers respond to a selection of ‘rides’. In contrast, Tessa Mills deliberately created abstracts without narrative, asking only that our imaginations do the work.
Drawing upon a selection of images to make the point, Alex Isaacs explored the meaning of ‘personal space’.
We featured two ‘outside sources’. Here are the links…..
People Portraits – Adam Docker
The Day I Met Björk - unseen Björk photos by Spike Jonze - This is a link to a WeTransfer ‘zine’. Once upon the page, simply click ‘download’ to receive the images.
All members’ work from our session can be seen in our Viewpoint e-book for this month. Click on the image at the end of this newsletter or use this link: Viewpoint and choose the December 2024 edition. The same link provides access to many previous issues of ‘Viewpoint’ - a fascinating treasure-trove waiting for you to explore!
The date for January would have been far too close to the end of the festive season to be comfortable. To allow a little rest from all the carousing, we’ve decided to have a break and reconvene in February. Please note the date below.
The next CPG meeting will be on Thursday, 6th February 2025.
The Season’s Greetings to one and all.
Best wishes,
Tessa and Clive.
